Spanish immigration procedure
Residence and work renewal
Your residence and work card, as an employee or self-employed, is running out and you want to stay in order. The renewal has a narrow filing window and several different cases depending on your employment situation: we check which one you fit and that you are within the deadline before charging you anything.
Fees
€449 incl. VAT
VAT and immigration fee included. Does not include apostilles or legalisations, sworn translations, consular fees, the card fee (TIE) or the immigration office appointment.
- We check that you are within the deadline and on which grounds you renew before charging you
- We only ask for the documents for your case, not a generic list
- We file the renewal and follow the case through to the decision
Is this your case?
- You have a residence and work permit as an employee (you work for a company) or self-employed and it has less than two months left before expiry, or it expired less than three months ago.
- You are still with the same company or activity you obtained it with; or you work for another company, have a new contract, receive unemployment benefit or are registered as a jobseeker after a dismissal.
- Or you have worked at least nine of the last twelve months, or a relative you live with has enough income to sponsor you.
For these cases it is a different procedure
- Your card is an arraigo or another permit on exceptional grounds: that is not renewed but extended, and it is another procedure with another questionnaire.
- Your card expired more than three months ago: renewal is no longer possible and another route has to be found, usually an arraigo. We look at it in a consultation.
- Your contract was terminated or suspended because you were a victim of gender or sexual violence: the renewal has its own treatment and is best handled with a lawyer from the start.
If you are not sure, take the test and we'll tell you which one applies to you.
How it works
-
We check the deadline and the case
You answer the questionnaire on this page and, before charging you anything, we tell you whether you are within the filing window and under which case in the rules you can renew, or whether it is better to see a lawyer first.
-
We ask only for your documents
Each case proves different things: employment history, contract, benefit or jobseeker registration. You receive the list for your specific case, not a generic one with everything that might be needed.
-
We file and follow your application
We prepare the application on the official form that applies to you (EX-03 as an employee, EX-07 as self-employed), file it and keep you informed at every step until the decision.
Check whether your case fits
Before charging you anything. It is a few questions and we tell you whether we can handle it or whether it is better to review it in a consultation.
We have already reviewed your case in your consultation.
You don't need to tell us anything again: go straight to your details and we apply your €50 discount when you pay.
Enter the code we emailed you and go straight to your details, without answering anything.
Which documents you need
To file the renewal of your residence and work permit we need these documents:
- Complete copy of your valid passport or travel document, all pages.
- Copy of your current TIE (residence card), both sides.
- Only if you do not fully meet one of the requirements above: integration effort report from your autonomous community.
On top of these come the documents proving your employment situation (contract, employment history, benefit or jobseeker registration, as the case may be). The questionnaire on this page tells you which applies to you.
Documents issued in another country must come translated into Spanish by a sworn translator and legalised or apostilled. That cost is not included in the price of the pack.
You don't need to have everything today: when you hire us we send you this list and review it with you.
Frequently asked questions
During the two months before the date your card expires. Filing on time automatically extends your permit until a decision is made. If you miss it, it is still accepted within the three months after expiry, although with a possible penalty for late filing. After those three months it is no longer a renewal.
Yes, in several cases: if since the dismissal you have been registered without interruption as a jobseeker, if you receive unemployment benefit, if you have a new contract with another company or if you have worked at least nine of the last twelve months. To renew with another company, with a new contract or as a jobseeker, you must also have worked at least three months for each year since your permit was granted. The questionnaire tells you which one you fit.
Not necessarily. The rules say that arrears in Social Security contributions do not prevent renewal if you prove that you continue to carry out the activity on a regular basis, although the office reports the debt to the Labour Inspectorate. Even so, as they check it ex officio, we prefer to look at it before filing: if in the questionnaire you tell us you have something outstanding, we suggest a consultation instead of hiring the pack directly.
Four years, both as an employee and self-employed, unless you already qualify for long-term residence. The renewed permit lets you work as an employee and self-employed, in any sector and anywhere in Spain, and its effects date back to the day after the previous one expired.
Yes: you have to provide the school enrolment report for the minors in your care of compulsory school age. If you don't provide it, the office informs the Education authorities and gives you a month to submit it; if it is not proven within that period, the renewal is not granted. We ask you for it from the start so it never gets to that point.
The application goes on the official EX-03 form if your permit is as an employee and on the EX-07 if it is self-employed. The price on this page includes our fees and the fees of the procedure; the foreigner identity card requested after the grant is separate.
